Traders dropped the prices of onions by Tk100 after news of a raid spread in a kitchen market in Joypurhat on Monday.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mizanur Rahman conducted a mobile court in the city's Natunhat kitchen market in a bid to control the prices of the kitchen essentials.

At that time, sensing the presence of the magistrate, the price of onion was reduced by Tk100 per kg.

Meanwhile, the mobile court fined an onion trader Tk1,000.

Mizanur Rahman said the prices of onions have started increasing again in the market.

Some traders have started selling onions at Tk200 to Tk220 per kg.

When the traders started selling onions at Tk 120 per kg, a crowd of buyers gathered in front of a shop.

The price of onion rose over Tk200 per kg in Dhaka and other parts of the country on Saturday after India declared an export embargo till March 2024.
