Naogaon is beginning to feel the chill of winter, with thick fog shrouding the area.
The mercury dropped to 11.4°C in its Badalgachi upazila–Monday’s lowest in the country as well as this season’s, Meteorologist Hamidul Haque of the local met office confirmed.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported that the upazila’s lowest temperature the day before was 14°C.
Locals said there is a strong wind in the evenings and the nights are foggy. Up until dawn, dense fog shrouds the entire town.
Vehicles have to operate with their headlights on even during the day, they said. But the fog clears as the day goes on, and then in the afternoons it gets chilly again.
Winter has brought suffering for the locals, especially low-income individuals. The rapid drop in temperature is making it difficult for the district’s residents to adjust.
Meteorologist Hamidul Haque said the conditions will get worse as he expects the temperature to drop further in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the BMD in its morning weather bulletin said the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country.
Moderate to thick fog may occur over the northern region and river basins of the country, and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere from midnight to morning.
