A team of Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Saturday fined six wholesale traders of two kitchen markets during raids conducted in Pabna district down.
The traders were fined Tk15,000 for selling onions at a higher price.
DNCRP Assistant Director Mahmud Hasan Roni said that the price of onion suddenly increased in the market due to the stop of imports from India. They are conducting raids so that traders can not sell onions at a higher rate.
During the raid, it was seen that the traders were buying onions at a price of Tk105 per kg and selling at a price of Tk180 to Tk200 per kg.
After hearing about the raid, several retail traders fled.
Later, the onions of the retail trader’s stores, who fled from the shop, were sold at a fixed price.
