Question paper leak: 19 arrested in Rangpur

Police have detained 19 people including five suspected ringleaders of a gang from Rangpur city on the charges of leaking, supplying, and forging question papers in the primary teacher recruitment examination. 

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Monirul Islam gave this information in a press conference organized at the Rangpur Metropolitan Police Department office on Friday afternoon.

The gang had planned to leak the question papers in exchange for a large sum of money before the primary teacher recruitment exam held on Friday across the country, including Rangpur. They intended to use a special device to deliver the question papers inside the exam centres. 

Based on secret information, police conducted drives in several parts of the city from Thursday night to Friday morning and arrested them, said the police commissioner. 

The arrestees are- Collectorate School and College teacher Mahmudul Hossain, Lions College teacher Nurunnabi, Kaunia Tepamadhupur Madrasa teacher Rezwan, Tejgaon College student Al Mahdi Hriday, Rangpur Carmichael College student Shubo Saha, Monabberul of Nilphamari. 

The police did not disclose the names of the eight female examinees who were also arrested in the drives. 

The police also recovered special devices, bank cheques, mobile phones, and other items.

 “The gang had planned to deliver answer sheets through special devices to the examinees in return for money,” said the police commissioner. 

“The issue of taking legal measures including filing a case against the detained persons is under process,” he added.
