Bangladesh Railway is set to introduce another intercity train on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route starting January 1, 2024.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan made the announcement at a press briefing at Rail Bhaban on Wednesday.
"We will send a summary to the prime minister with several proposed names for the train, and with the prime minister's permission, we will launch a new train on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route from January," he said.
According to railway sources, the new train from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar will depart from Cox's Bazar at 8pm and reach Chittagong at 10:50pm. It will leave for Dhaka at 11:15pm following a 15-minute break. It will reach Dhaka at 6:43am. Before this, the train will take a break at the Airport Station. Then, it will leave from Dhaka at 6:15am and reach Chittagong at 11:20pm. It will leave from there at 11:40am following a break of 20 minutes and reach Cox's Bazar at 3pm. It will make stoppage at the Airport Station in the meantime.
The railways minister also said they would launch a commuter train on Khulna-Jessore-Mongla route from January 1.
The first train on the route, Cox's Bazar Express, started operations on December 1.
