Two covered vans were burnt as some unidentified individuals hurled ignitable substances on the vehicles on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at the Bhogra Bypass intersection in Gazipur early Thursday.
The incident took place around 6:15am.
Both the covered vans were carrying goods from readymade garment factories.
The miscreants also blasted crude bombs to create panic in the area.
Khademul Islam, the covered van driver of DBL garment factory, said that he was going to Narayanganj from Kashimpur. Around 15 miscreants riding seven-eight motorcycles obstructed his vehicle.
When he stopped his vehicle, the miscreants broke the front side glass of the vehicle throwing brick chips. At one stage, they set the covered van on fire pouring petrol, said the driver.
Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of Gazipur fire service, said that on information two units of fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after half an hour.
Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Gacha police station, said that miscreants set fire to two covered vans and managed to flee. Police and fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Necessary legal action will be taken against the criminals after investigation.
