Candidates of 20 parties have collected their nomination forms for the 15 constituencies of Dhaka city.
As of Tuesday, a total of 174 nomination forms had been distributed against these 15 constituencies, both for party candidates and independent candidates. Among them, 50 are independent, and the other 124 are party candidates, according to sources from the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer's office.
There are currently 44 registered political parties in the country. Among them, BNP and several like-minded parties have announced a boycott of the elections.
According to the returning office sources, more nomination forms have been collected in the name of the ruling Awami League among party candidates in Dhaka city. As many as nine nomination forms have been collected in the name of the party in one constituency.
It is reported that the parties for which nomination forms have been collected are: Awami League, Nationalist People's Party (NPP), Zaker Party, Bangladesh Congress, Jatiya Party, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), Trinomool BNP, Islamic Front Bangladesh, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Gonotontri Party, Gono Front, Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijote, Bangladesh Tarikat Federation, Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), Bangladesh Workers Party (Menon), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSAD (INU), Bangladesh Kalyan Party, Bikolpodhara Bangladesh, Jatiya Party (JP) and Bangladesh Islamic Front.
Apart from this, nomination forms have also been collected in the names of two newly registered parties: Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Andolan and 'Janata Katha' organization.
In Dhaka, the most nomination forms have been distributed from Dhaka-14. A total of 26 nomination forms have been distributed from this constituency. Nine nomination forms have been collected in the name of Awami League. Apart from Mainul Hossain, who got the party's nomination for this seat, the party's joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, forest and environment affairs secretary Delwar Hossain, current member of parliament Aga Khan Mintu and former reserved seat MP Sabina Akhtar Tuhin and others have collected the forms. Besides, seven independent candidates have collected nomination forms for Dhaka-14 constituency.
The same number of independent candidates have taken nomination forms for Dhaka-5 constituency. As of Tuesday, no independent candidates had collected nomination forms in Dhaka-9 and Dhaka-13 constituencies.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader collected the nomination form from Dhaka-17 constituency. Awami League's Mohammad Ali Arafat, former MP BNF chairman Abul Kalam Azad took the nomination form from this constituency.
Present Member of Parliament Rashed Khan Menon has collected a nomination form from the Dhaka-8 constituency. In the last three elections, this constituency was given to the Workers Party by the Awami League, but this time they have given the party nomination to Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, who has already collected the nomination form.
In metropolitan constituencies, 11 candidates including two from Awami League in Dhaka-4, 16 candidates including one from Awami League in Dhaka-5, nine candidates including one from Awami League in Dhaka-6, 9 candidates including one from Awami League in Dhaka-7, 18 candidates including two from Awami League in Dhaka-8, seven candidates including one from Awami League in Dhaka-9, 10 candidates including two from Awami League in Dhaka-10, 11 candidates including five from Awami League in Dhaka-11, seven candidates including one from Awami League in Dhaka-12, 10 candidates including two from Awami League in Dhaka-13, 26 candidates including 9 people from Awami League in Dhaka-14, 9 candidates including two from Awami League in Dhaka-15, eight candidates including one from Awami League in Dhaka-16, 14 candidates including two from Awami League in Dhaka-17, and nine candidates including two from Awami League collected nomination forms.
There are a total of 20 constituencies in the Dhaka district. Out of these, four are located outside Dhaka city.
