Miscreants set fire to a train standing at Ishwardi Junction Railway Station in Pabna on Monday night, the last day of seven-phase blockade enforced by opposition BNP and other like-minded parties.
The incident took place around 8:30pm, confirmed ABM Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC Investigation) of Ishwardi police station.
On information, two units of fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after half an hour.
No one has been injured in the arson attack so far.
The OC said that privately run “Dhaka Mail Train” was kept parked at the station for washing. It was scheduled to leave the station for Dhaka on Tuesday.
Miscreants set the train on fire pouring kerosene on it, said the police official.
A few seats in a compartment were burnt.
He said that a drive is underway to detain the miscreants. Legal action will be taken against the criminals very soon.

Warehouse inspector of Ishwardi Fire Service Apu Kumar Mandal said: “As soon as we got the information, we reached the spot and the fire was brought under control within a few minutes. Fifteen seats in the sixth compartment of the train were burnt in the arson attack. Initially, it is believed that someone poured kerosene and set it on fire for sabotage.”
