The Forest Department has recovered a carcass of a tiger floating in the river.
Directed by Burigoalini Forest Station Officer (SO) Habibul Islam, a group of workers recovered the headless and decomposed carcass floating in the Raimangal River at around 6pm.
Satkhira Range Assistant Forest Conservator (ACF) AKM Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the matter and said: “After receiving information from some fishermen, the carcass of the tiger was recovered.”
The matter has been informed to the higher authorities.
A general diary had been filed at Shyamnagar police station.
The number of Bengal tigers in the Bangladesh part of the Sundarban forests has increased to 114, according to the recent tiger census.
The number rose to 114 in 2018, up from 106 recorded during a previous survey in 2015.
