At least five people were killed and one injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Belpukur in Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased are Parveen Begum, 35, Sharmin, 17, Insab Ali, 75, Ayub Ali Labu, 35, and CNG driver Mokhlesur Rahman, 35. The injured is Hridoy, 18.
Confirming the matter, Paba Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mofakkarul Islam said: "On Saturday afternoon, a collision occurred between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw near the Belpukur Bypass area on Paba Highway. One died on the spot and four others were injured critically after the truck smashed the CNG-run autorickshaw. Later, four died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on arrival.”
The driver of the truck and his officials fled after the incident. Legal action will be taken against them later, he added.
The bodies were kept at the hospital morgue.
