On the other hand, after 20 days, the leaders and activists of the district BNP marched in support of the hartal in the busiest area of Rangpur city on Sunday afternoon.
The procession circled the main road of the city until the police arrived and blocked them.
Earlier on Sunday morning, when the leaders and activists of metropolitan BNP gathered and prepared to march in support of the hartal at the four-story intersection of Lalbagh Road in the city, the police rushed there and arrested Abdus Salam and BNP leader Farooq.
On the other hand, 8-10 leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal marched in support of the hartal at a secluded place on Burirhat road in Rangpur city.
Witnesses said that the leaders and activists quickly left the place after marching for 10 minutes.
On the other hand, after 20 days of BNP's blockade and hartal program, on Sunday afternoon, 30-35 leaders and activists, led by district BNP President Saiful Islam and General Secretary Anisur Rahman Laku, took out a procession from the ship company junction of the city and toured various areas including the Press Club.
After finishing the procession, they quickly left from there.
However, BNP's sudden open rally in the city created anxiety among the city dwellers.
When contacted, Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman said that two leaders, including BNP leader Salam, have been arrested on charges of sabotage.
Preparations are underway to file a case against them, he added.
