Fourteen fishermen who went missing after their trawler sank in the Bay of Bengal have been rescued by local fishermen in Bagerhat's Dublar Char.

The fishermen rescued this morning were brought to Alorkol in Sundarbans under Bagerhat district. The 14 rescued fishermen are from Pathorghata upazila of Barguna district.

Dublar Char Fisherman Group Chairman Kamal Uddin Ahmed said that a trawler with 14 fishermen drowned in the Bay of Bengal on Friday due to the cyclone. Local fishermen managed to rescue all 14 individuals from the turbulent waters.

He said that fishermen from the sunken trawler were found adrift in the sea.

Khalilur Rahman, in charge of Dublar Char forest camp, confirmed that the 14 fishermen who went missing have been rescued.

Officials of the Fishermen's Association are being contacted to facilitate the return of these fishermen to their homes, he said.

Search continues for missing fishermen

Meanwhile, 25 fishermen of two trawlers from Dublar Char remain missing in the Bay of Bengal following Cyclone Midhili. As of filing this report this afternoon, the remaining missing fishermen could not be located.

Additionally, efforts are underway to search for the other missing fishermen along with the two trawlers, Khalilur Rahman added.
