Police on Thursday detained one activist of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, for trying to vandalize vehicles in Satkhira’s Debhata.
The identity of the detainee could not yet be known.
Ajibur Rahman Alim, leader of the Satkhira unit Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League said that the Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists staged a procession in the afternoon from the east side of Bahera market. Later, as the procession moved to the west side of the market, they tried to vandalize a bus and a few other vehicles.
The majority of them fled when the locals pursued them, but one was taken into custody. A banner and stick were recovered from him.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debhata police station Babul Akhtar could not be reached for comment.
