Several incidents of clashes between police and leaders and activists of the Left Democratic Alliance occurred in various parts of the country on Thursday.

In Rangpur, a chase and counter-chase took place between alliance members and police as law enforcement thwarted their procession supporting the hartal.

Police detained Abdul Quddus, the president of the Basad Rangpur District, from the scene.

Left alliance leaders and observers said that the leaders and workers had gathered in front of the Rangpur Press Club at 1pm to support the half-day hartal called by the alliance.

Basad Marxist District President Anwar Hossain Bablu, Basad District President Abdul Quddus, Left Alliance Leader Mominur Rahman, and other leaders addressed the rally.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with the fairness and impartiality of elections under the current government, the leaders rejected the Chief Election Commissioner's announcement of the election schedule for January 7.

Rangpur Metropolitan Kotowali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahfuzar Rahman clarified that Basad leader Abdul Quddus was released and not detained or arrested.

In Narayanganj, the Left Democratic Alliance marched through the district in support of the nationwide half-hour strike.

However, the police dispersed them, leading to a scuffle with the party members.

At least 20 activists were injured, including Left Democratic Alliance District Coordinator and District Communist Party President Hafizul Islam, General Secretary Shibnath Chakraborty, Basder District Member Abu Naeem Khan Biblab, and twenty others.

Hafizul Islam explained that they had organized a peaceful march in the morning in support of the strike, but the police attacked them without provocation.

At that time, the police detained and later released him.

Narayanganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahadat Hossain stated that the strikers were dispersed when they attempted to block the road, and there were no arrests or detentions.
