Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested two Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) members over sabotage in Barisal.
Barisal Metropolitan Chhatra Dal President Advocate Rezaul Karim Roni and Government Syed Hatim College unit Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Ahad Hossain Abir were arrested by RAB-8 for setting fire to vehicles and vandalizm during the ongoing blockade program enforced by the BNP-Jamaat.
Khandaker Al Moin, in-charge of the force’s Legal and Media Wing, revealed the information at a press conference on Wednesday.
He said that the duo was produced before a court following their arrest, and the court sent them to jail.
The RAB official said that according to an intelligence report the leaders of the associate body of opposition BNP were involved in carrying out arson in Dhaka and Barisal. Acting on a tip-off, the force managed to detain them.
Earlier, the relatives of the Juba Dal leaders alleged that the duo was picked up from their respective houses in Barisal city on Tuesday.
Khandaker Al Moin further said that the duo contacted several opposition leaders residing outside the country, including the UK and Canada, and also shared videos of arson and vandalism on social media. RAB seized their phones, and the videos were found on the devices.
The RAB official also said that Roni was planning to carry out sabotages on waterway vessels on the Dhaka-Barisal route after the polls schedule for the next general election was announced.
Rezaul Karim Roni has been behind bars for arson before, Khandaker Al Moin told the media.
On the other hand, Abir has been following Roni’s instructions and carrying out vandalism in Barisal city during the blockade programs.
