Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man and seized 10 gold bars worth Tk1.24 crore from the Baskal area of Bhomra land port in Satkhira on Thursday.
The detainee was identified as Ashraful Islam, 24, son of Noor Hamza of Satkhira Sadar upazila.
Tipped off, a team, under the leadership of Md Asaduzzaman of Bhomra BOP, strategically took position near the main pillar 3 near the Baskal area on Thursday morning.
Ashraful Islam was detained while riding his bicycle through the area at the time.
Later, the team searched the arrestee's body and discovered 10 gold bars, weighing around 1.4kg, on the right side of his waist, said Lt Col Md Ashraful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-33.
The detainee has been handed over to Satkhira Sadar police station, and the process of depositing the gold bars in the Satkhira Treasury Office is underway.
