Bangladeshi teenager killed in BSF firing along Rajshahi border

  • BGB calls flag meeting
  • Body recovered

A Bangladeshi teenager was shot dead by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Godagari border of Rajshahi district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Samirul Islam, 16, son of Hasibul Islam of Barinagar village, Char Asariadaha union, Godagari upazila.

According to Ashraful Haque Bhola, chairman of the Char Asariadaha Union Parishad, some people, including Samiul, were cutting grass 150 yards inside Bangladesh from the zero line near the Diyar Manikchak border area around 9pm on Thursday. 

At the time, the BSF members from the Char Ashariadah outpost on the Indian border fired three rounds at Samirul. He died on the spot.

Godagari upazila UNO Atiqul Islam said the body has been recovered by police. Legal action will be taken in this regard.

Commander of 53 Battalion Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lt Col Nahid Hossain visited the scene following the incident. 

The BGB has called a flag meeting with the BSF.
