Police on Tuesday arrested the Tangail district unit BNP general secretary over an explosive case filed against him.
Farhad Iqbal was arrested from Beparipara Orphanage Road, said Tangail Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abu Salam Miah.
He added Iqbal was arrested in a case filed under the Explosives Act with the Tangail Sadar police station on October 29.
According to Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police Sharfuddin, Iqbal has been named in several cases at the Tangail Sadar police station and will be produced before a court soon.
Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists protested against the district general secretary's arrest. They have demanded his immediate release.
Since October 28, a total of six cases have been filed naming 194 BNP activists and 500 unidentified individuals.
Among them, 166 people have been arrested so far.
