Miscreants threw petrol on a bus carrying garment workers parked at Sreepur in Gazipur and set it on fire on Wednesday.
The bus was completely burnt in the fire.
Locals immediately tried to control the fire.
On receiving the information, a firefighting team reached the spot and extinguished the fire.
The incident took place on the west side of the Rangila Bazar (Captain CNG) road in the upazila of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 6:30pm on Wednesday.
Bus driver Riyad Hossain said: "As a tyre of the bus got punctured on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Rangela Bazar area at 6pm, I parked it for repair. I removed the tyre and took it to a nearby shop. While I was away, someone threw petrol behind the bus and set it on fire.”
A shop owner Sajib alerted the driver about the fire, and he rushed to witness the bus in flames.
Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Fazal Md Nasim said: "Miscreants set fire to the bus that was parked to repair near the highway. Legal action will be taken in this regard.”
