BNP blockade: Covered van torched in Gazipur

On the first day of the BNP-Jamaat's third phase of the two-day blockade, miscreants torched a covered van in Kaliganj of Gazipur. 

The mechanic and driver's assistant in the covered van sustained burn injuries. 

The incident took place in the Galan area of ​​the city on the Dhaka-Bypass road on Wednesday early in the morning. Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faizur Rahman confirmed.

Kaliganj Fire Service Leader Mostafizur Rahman said: “The miscreants torched a covered van and escaped in Galan area around 5am on Wednesday morning. The covered van was going towards Gazipur via Dhaka bypass road transporting products of Fresh Company. After receiving a call from the National Emergency Service (999), firefighters arrived at the scene at 6:10am. They brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes. By then, most of the covered van was burnt.”

Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faizur Rahman said: “The miscreants set fire to a covered van carrying fresh company products in Galan area of ​​Dhaka Bypass Road early in the morning. At that time, two people were burnt, but their names were not known. Later, they were rescued and sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday around 6:30am, the police raided the board house area of ​​the upazila and arrested six leaders and activists including members of the central executive committee of the BNP while preparing for sabotage.

The arrestees are central executive committee member Kazi Syedul Alam Babul, former general secretary of Gazipur district BNP Dewan Golam Rabbani, president of Chapair Union BNP of Kaliakair upazila Moslem Uddin, Mokles Mridha Liton, Jalal Uddin, Mohammad Khokon. At that time, other activists ran away from the scene.

Akbar Ali Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliakair Police Station said, based on secret information, we learned that the BNP leaders and activists were preparing to sabotage the board house area. After receiving the news of sabotage, the police raided the area and arrested six BNP leaders and activists.
