Bogra’s Dhunat police station Sub-inspector (SI) Shahidul Islam has been withdrawn after a local Swechasebak League leader posted a photo wearing his bullet-proof jacket on social media recently.

The incident and the photo of the Swechasebak League leader Sajedul Islam Sagar went viral on social media.

The SI has been transferred from Dhunat police station to Bogra police lines after allegations of negligence in duty were proved.

Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Sigdh Akhtar confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sajedur Rahman Shaheen, Dhunat unit Swechasebak League president, claimed that Sagar is not a member of his organization.

According to police and locals, on October 31, during the blockade called by BNP, SI Shahidul Islam was on duty at the Shonahata Bazar area. He opened his bullet-proof jacket and kept it on a table for a while.

Later, Sagar found the jacket, wore it, and took a photo of himself. He also posted the picture on social media.

Witnesses said Sagar only wore the jacket out of curiosity and did not have any ill intention behind it.

Robiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dhunat police station, said Sajedul Islam Sagar was detained from Shonahata Bazar on Monday night. Later, he was released into the custody of his family after he took the picture off Facebook and expressed regret.

Sajedul Islam Sagar said: "A few days ago, out of curiosity, I took pictures of myself wearing the police officer’s bullet-proof jacket and posted them online.” He said he had no ulterior motives there.

Regarding his post in the Swechasebak League, he said he has been participating in party activities as a joint general secretary.
