Police in Tangail have arrested six BNP leaders, including the grandson of the late Maulana Bhashani, in a case filed over sabotage.
Five of them were arrested as they were holding a program in support of the BNP’s nationwide blockade in the Karatia Bypass area on Sunday morning, while another was taken into custody from his residence.
The arrested are former member secretary of Tangail district BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, the grandson of Maulana Bhashani, Member Secretary of Tangail Matsyajibi Dal Mostafa Kamal, Tangail Jubo Dal Joint Convener Syed Habibul Alam Shatil, Tangail Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Abdul Baten, Joint Convener Raisul Islam Rubel and former general secretary of the BNP for Tangail City Shaheen Akand.
Abu Salam Mia, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail Sadar police station, said they were arrested in a sabotage case filed on October 29.
