At least 21 incidents of arson were reported across Bangladesh in over 24 hours till Wednesday evening during the road, rail and waterway blockade enforced by the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami.
On the second day of the blockade, the fire service received a total of eight reports of arson by mobs from 6am to 7.15pm on Wednesday.
Among arson incidents, two incidents took place in Dhaka city, two in Dhaka division, two in Chittagong division (Sitakunda, Karnaphuli), one in Rajshahi division and one in Rangpur division (Parbatipur).
Four buses, a lorry, a truck and a motorcycle were burnt in the incidents.
A three-day blockade of road, rail and waterways, enforced by BNP, Jamaat and like-minded opposition parties, began on Tuesday to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit and hold the next election under a non-party, neutral administration.
