Police on Tuesday detained Kushtia district unit BNP president, general secretary, and Jubo Dal senior vice president, amid the three-day blockade announced by the party.
The detainees are BNP President Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi, General Secretary Principal Sohrab Uddin, and Jubo Dal Senior Vice President Mezbaur Rahman Pintu.
They were arrested from the district BNP office in a joint operation led by the Detective Branch (DB) of police and Kushtia Model police station.
Police claimed to have recovered 18 bombs, iron rods, bamboo sticks, and bricks from the party office.
Syed Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model police station, said some BNP leaders and activists, including Syed Mehedi Ahmed and Sohrab Uddin, were gathering at the Kushtia district BNP office around 11:30am.
Acting on a tip-off, police and DB police conducted a joint operation and arrested them.
They have been kept in police custody, and a case will be filed soon, the OC added.
