The police on Sunday recovered a bag containing nine petrol bombs from the area adjacent to BNP office at Grand Hotel intersection in Rangpur city.
Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzar Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
He said the local police were patrolling the area surrounding the BNP office to prevent any untoward incident during the hartal.
At 1pm, two men came to the BNP office with a bag. However, they left the scene quickly after sensing the presence of police, leaving behind the bag.
At that time, police recovered nine fresh petrol bombs from inside the bag.
Mahfuzar Rahmansaid that the initial investigation revealed that this bomb was taken to the BNP office to cause major sabotage in Rangpur city.
Legal action will be taken in this regard, he added.
