Two days after the train accident in Kishoreganj’s Bhairab the father of Rabiul, 8, an injured child admitted to the hospital, has been located.
Milan Mia found his son after the media coverage of the search for the child's relatives. A video call between the father and son was arranged through Bhairab's volunteers.
Bhairab Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Bulbul Ahmed confirmed the information on Wednesday night.
He said: "We are very pleased that Rabiul has been reunited with his family. I spoke to his father Milan Mia over the phone a while ago. Their village home is in Patuakhali district. Milan resides at Mirpur, Dhaka, where he works as a cook in a restaurant.”
However, he couldn't provide much information about how his son ended up in Bhairab.
“Once we collect all the necessary evidence and confirm their identity, we will hand over Rabiul to Milon Mia. Rabiul himself revealed that he doesn't have a mother. His father will provide further details," Dr Bulbul added.
Dr Bulbul further said: "After the train accident on Monday around 4:30pm, the child was admitted to the hospital. With consistent care over the last two days, he has shown significant improvement. He was unconscious initially after the accident. Upon regaining consciousness, he told us his name was Rabiul.”
“However, his information on his residing addresses varied, sometimes mentioning Narsingdi, other times Gulistan in Dhaka. But on Wednesday morning, he stated that his father's name is Suman, and their home is in Barisal. He was on the train but couldn't provide more information."
Sidratul Rashid Piyal, former general secretary of Bhairab's Prothom Alo Bondhushava, mentioned: "We learned about Rabiul's family through a policeman working in Mirpur, Dhaka. I spoke to Rabiul's father. He will arrive in Bhairab tonight. If everything goes smoothly, Rabiul will be reunited with his father."
Bhairab Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Sadiqur Rahman Sabuj expressed his gratitude, adding: "The news about finding the relatives of the injured children in the train accident was widely circulated, including on social media. The child's father promptly located his family. Various media outlets, Prothom Alo Bondhushava, and various social media posts played a crucial role in reuniting the child with his family. If all goes well, we will return baby Rabiul to his family soon."
