69th death anniversary of Jibanananda Das observed in Barisal

On the occasion of the 69th death anniversary of Poet of Ruposi Bangla, Jibanananda Das (1899-1954), different organizations in his native town Barisal observed the day calling for expanding study on his works.

He is the creator of “Bonolota Sen”, the unparalleled character embodying the serene beauty of a Bangali woman.

Activists of Jatiya Kabita Parishad (JKP) and Progotui Lekhok Sangha, Barisal unit, jointly put floral tribute on the portrait of the memorial hall established on Kobi Jibanananda Das Sarak of the city in the morning.

After that, a discussion and recitation of poems written by him and on him was held with Tapankar Chakraborty, president JKP, in the chair.

Among others, Dr Kazi Mozammel Hossain, Dipangkar Chakraborty, Nazmul Hossain Akash, Partha Sarathi, Apurba Goutam, Bahauddin Golap, Shovan Karmakar Krishna, and Bimal Chakraborty participated in the discussion.

Besides, Nirbachito, a posh book shop of the city, also held discussion and recitation program on the poet in the evening. Among others, Prof ASM Habibul Islam, Debashis Haldar, and Jahid Abdullah Rahat spoke at the function.

Jibanananda Das got hit by a tram while crossing a road near Kolkata’s Deshpriya Park on October 14, 1954. He succumbed to his injuries on October 22, 1954.
