A Jubo League leader was shot and hacked to death in the Shanti Niketon area of Rangunia upazila, Chittagong, on Sunday evening.
The deceased was Monjur Hossain, 35, former publicity secretary of the Swanirbhorrangunia union unit of Jubo League in the upazila.
Another individual named Sekandar was injured in this incident.
Police and local residents said on Sunday evening Monjur Hossain and his friend Sekandar were chatting in the Shanti Niketon area when several miscreants targeted them, fired shots, stabbed them and fled the area after the attack.
When the injured were taken to the local upazila health complex, the attending doctor declared Monjur dead.
Rangunia Jubo League General Secretary Md Yunus said Monjur was active in Jubo League politics.
“We demand the arrest of those responsible for shooting and killing him," he said.
Rangunia police station Inspector Khan Nurul Islam said: "His body has bullet wounds as well as injuries in various places. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy."
