A mild earthquake jolted parts of the Sylhet region on Tuesday afternoon – a second one within a span of just 15 days – causing panic among locals.
The earthquake, measuring 3.5 magnitude on the Richter Scale, was felt at 1:13pm and lasted for a few seconds, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 18km away from Jaintiapur upazila of Sylhet, it said.
Fahim Hossain who works at at the BMD, said: “The quake hit Sylhet at 1:13pm. It was 195km northeast of the Agargaon met office.”
Earlier on August 14, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Sylhet.
