Noakhali district unit Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued a show-cause notice to the party’s Hatiya municipality unit president for attending a program observing National Mourning Day.

The notice was served to Kazi Abdur Rahim after he posted a photo of himself attending the program on his Facebook account.

The notice, signed by district unit BNP Secretary General Advocate Abdur Rahman, was issued on Wednesday night. It mentions that Kazi Abdur Rahim indulged in activities contrary to party discipline.

The leader has been asked to respond to the notice within seven days.

Kazi Abdur Rahim is working as a teacher at Hatiya Rahmania Fazil Madrasah.

He said: "I work at a madrasa. It's a national program, and I had to be present there. Moreover, there is no scope to underestimate the national leaders. This country does not have a history if we overlook Father of the Nation.”

Tanvir Hossain, general secretary of upazila unit BNP, said Kazi Abdur Rahim works at a Madrasa, hence attending such national programs is normal. “But the way he shared some pictures of the event on his Facebook and circulated it, was highly objectionable.”

He added that Rahim deleted the pictures, but several BNP leaders and activists took screenshots of his post and sought action against the matter.
