Sayedee's absentee funeral: Over 12,000 sued in six cases in Cox's Bazar

  • Police filed five cases while wife of deceased filed another
  • One killed, several injured during clash

Six cases have been filed in Chakaria of Cox's Bazar in connection with the clashes between Jamaat-e-Islami activists and police over Jamaat's attempt to hold an absentee funeral prayer for the late Delawar Hossain Sayedee in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria and Pekua areas.

Among these, police have filed five cases as plaintiff for obstructing the Special Powers Act and the government and the wife of Mohammad Forkan, who was killed in Chakaria, has filed a murder case as the plaintiff.

Superintendent of Police of Cox's Bazar Md Mahfuzul Islam confirmed the information at 8pm on Wednesday.

He said that three separate cases have been filed in Chakaria clash. Police are plaintiffs in two cases while the deceased Forkan’s wife was the plaintiff in another. Of the two cases, police named 74 accused while the deceased’s wife named none.

Sources at Chakria police station said that the plaintiff in these two cases is Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Al Forkan.

The SP said that the police have filed two cases as plaintiff in the attack on the police in Pekua naming 151 accused.

Pekua police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Omar Haider said that Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police Mufizul Islam filed these two cases as plaintiff.

A source from Pekua police station confirmed that the two main accused in the case filed in Pekua are Amir of Pekua Sadar Jamaat and former upazila vice chairman Nuruzzaman Manju. Barbakia union Chairman Maulana Badiul Alam Jihadi and Pekua upazila Jamaat Amir Abul Kalam are among some of the other notable accused.

One person was killed and several others, including police officers, were injured and a police car was vandalized in clashes between Jamaat-e-Islami activists and police over Jamaat's attempt to hold an absentee funeral prayer for the late Delawar Hossain Sayedee in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria and Pekua areas on Tuesday.
