A woman and her daughter were hacked to death in Bagerhat's Sarankhola area on Friday evening.
The deceased were Papia Akter, 38, and her daughter Sauda Jeni, 6.
Sarankhola police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ekram Hossain said the police are investigating the matter.
According to police and local sources, Papia and Jeni were killed with sharp weapons. Later, their neighbours rescued them upon hearing their screams.
The child was taken to her uncle's house with serious injuries and died there. Meanwhile, Papia was rescued and taken to Sarankhola Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Papia's family claimed that the two were murdered over a dispute between Papia and her husband.
