A three-member investigation committee has been formed in Gopalganj following the death of a patient due to alleged wrong treatment.

Gopalganj Civil Surgeon Dr Niaz Mohammad formed the investigation committee on Sunday.

Confirming the news, Dr Niaz Mohammad said the committee has been formed with Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College and Hospital's Assistant Professor Dr Imdadul Haque as the head, in response to the patient's death.

The committee has been instructed to conduct a field investigation and submit the report within the next five working days, he said.

If allegations are proven, action will be taken against the clinic and the doctor involved, he added.

The patient, Hafizur Chowdhury, 42, was admitted to the Digital Diagnostic Centre and Clinic at Post Office road in Gopalganj city on Monday due to a problem caused by nasal polyps.

After conducting 11 tests and examinations for Hafizur's nasal operation, he was taken to the operation theatre at around 11.30pm.

Following the administration of an anaesthesia injection by Dr Hiramba Ray and Dr Golam Sarowar of the clinic, Hafizur passed away.

The clinic authorities, promising advanced treatment, hired an ambulance and took the patient to a clinic in Khulna.

Upon arrival, the on-duty doctor sent the deceased patient back.

Following the incident, several meetings were convened to mitigate the situation.

Moreover, the deceased's family was offered a substantial sum of money to suppress the matter.

The incident created a stir in the city, with multiple media outlets publishing news based on the relatives' allegations.

It eventually caught the attention of Gopalganj's civil surgeon.

Amidst this backdrop, the investigation committee was formed on Sunday.
