A Jubo League activist was killed while another sustained injury in an attack by miscreants while returning home from the Khulna divisional youth march Thursday evening.
The deceased is Azad Sheikh, 30, lder brother of No 11 Perulia union Jubo League President Sajjat Sheikh.
The incident took place at Perulia Union No 11 of Narail's Kalia upazila.
Superintendent of Narail district police Sadira Khanom said that the police of Kalia police station rescued Azad in an injured condition and sent him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. His death was reported from the hospital.
Narail police's investigation in this regard is ongoing.
Witnesses said that leaders and activists took part in the Jubo League's rally held in Khulna on Thursday afternoon led by Narail 1 Constituency Member of Parliament Kabirul Haque Mukti. Azad Sheikh joined the procession. After the rally, he crossed Kheyaghat of Perulia Union No 11 in the evening. Azad Sheikh died when miscreants attacked him. A Jubo League activist named Johnny Sardar was injured in this incident.
Narail 1 Constituency Member of Parliament Kabirul Haque Mukti, metropolitan Jubo League President Sofikur Rahman Palash and General Secretary Sheikh Shahajalal Hossain Sujan rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital after receiving the news of Azad's death. They strongly condemned the attack and demanded that the accused be arrested and brought under the law.
