Feni anti-Hindu attacks: One more suspect confesses

Police have remanded six more over the attacks

Another suspect has confessed to his involvement in the vandalization of Hindu temples and shops in Feni.

Rabiul Haque, 30, confessed in front of Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Dhrubo Jyoti Pal, confirmed Feni Model Police Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman. 

Rabiul was arrested from Chagalnaiya upazila on October 26, he said.

On October 27, he was produced before Senior Judicial Magistrate Kamrul Hassan who granted the police two days to grill the suspect in custody.

According to Inspector Rahman, Rabiul confessed to vandalising temples and shops in protest of the Quran desecration incident in Comilla.

“He named a few others who were also involved in the attacks,” he said.

He added that four cases have been filed against 653 people over the attacks and as of October 29, police have arrested 22 people.

According to police four people including Rabiul Haque, 30, Touhidul Islam Zidan, 16, Golam Morshed Khan, 20, have given confessional statements in court.

Moreover, six people are being grilled in police custody.

On October 16, a Feni Puja Celebration Parishad rally protesting the attack on the Hindu community was attacked leading to a clash.

The seven-hour clash left Hindu temples and shops vandalised, transports on fire and nearly 40 including Feni Model Police OC Nizamuddin injured.
