A head-on collision between a bus and a covered van left one person dead and seven others injured on the Comilla-Noakhali regional highway in Laksam upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was the driver of the van but his identity could not be known yet, said Maksudul Hasan, in-charge of Laksam highway crossing police outpost.

The accident occurred in the morning when the Dhaka-bound bus of Himachal Express crashed into the van coming from the opposite direction on the Noakhali carriageway as the other lane was closed for repair work.
The bus veered off the road and fell into a roadside ditch in the impact of the collision, witnesses said. They were the ones to rush to the rescue of the injured victims.
Maksudul suspects the accident occurred due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog on the highway.
