During the campaign of a female candidate in Comilla’s Borua upazila, men were seen dancing wearing burqas on Monday ahead of the third phase of the Union Parishad (UP) elections.
A 30-second video of it has already gone viral on the social media platform Facebook.
Putul Begum, a sunflower symbol member, is a reserved female candidate of wards 4, 5 and 6 of Khoshbas Uttar Union of the upazila.
The UP polls are scheduled to be held in nine unions of the upazila on November 28.
As part of the election campaign, a procession, led by Putul Begum, had hundreds of men dancing in burqas and soliciting votes for her.
When asked about this strange avatar, she said: "Girls will no longer dance if they wear burqas as it is embarrassing. However, there is no problem with men doing that.”
“It is as interesting as it is fun. Everyone loved it,” she added.
