13 held over Chittagong Textile Institute clash

Police have arrested 13 people in connection with a clash between two groups at Chittagong Textile Institute.

Chittagong Textile Institute Hostel Superintendent Mohammad Rasheduzzaman filed a case against 15-20 unidentified people with Bayazid police station on Tuesday. Later, the police conducted a drive and arrested the 13 people in the connection with clash.

The detainees were identified as Gazi Fardin Ahmed Siam, 18, Mohammad Borhan Uddin, 20, Mohammad Maruf Siddiqui, 18, Abdullah Al Mamun Ehsan, 20, Mohammad Sohag Khan, 19, Mohai Bin Safi Fahim, 20, Mohammad Ashraful Islam, 19, Mohammad Zahir Raihan, 20 , Mahabub Newaz, 30, Obaidul Islam, 20, Moshaddek Hossain Shishir, 21, Yassin Arafat, 20, and Mohammad Aklaqur Rahman, 21.

Earlier, 10 people were injured in a clash between the two sides at around 1am on Tuesday night.

The injured were identified as Mohammad Rashedul Islam, 18, Mohammad Fazle Rabbi, 17, Mohammad Fayez Uddin, 17, Mohammad Ullah Ashraf, 18, Ashraful Islam Ashiq, 17, Rajib Hossain, 18, Abhijit Dutta, 18, Parvez Hossain, 19, Mohammad Maidul Hasan, 18 and Bapparaj Talukder, 18.

The injured were being treated at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost In-charge Nurul Alam Ashek said the 10 injured people were admitted to the hospital around 3 am. All the injured are students at Chittagong Textile Institute. 

Bayazid Bostami police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kamruzzaman said the students of the fifth semester and seventh semester of the Textile Institute had a clash at night over establishing supremacy. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. 

Rods and cricket bats were recovered during the operation that night.
