Over 150 houses gutted as cooking gas cylinder leak triggers fire in Gazipur

More than 150 tin-shed houses have been gutted in a fire, triggered by a cooking gas cylinder leak, at a colony in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur.
The fire broke out at the colony in Mouchak Telirchara area around 7:15 pm on Monday, confirmed Saiful Islam, station officer of Kaliakoir fire service.
It started from a gas cylinder leak in a tenant’s house and spread across the colony, engulfing other houses, he added.
On information, two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 9:30 pm after more than two hours of frantic effort, said the official.
The fire has caused a loss of around Tk 2 crore, however, no casualties were reported, he added.
