The bodies of two Bangladeshis shot dead allegedly by India’s Border Security force (BSF) along Dona border in Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday.
Kanaighat police station OC Tajul Islam confirmed the development, saying BGB-BSF had jointly recovered the bodies earlier after discussion and then the bodies were handed over to BGB.
Locals found the bodies of Askar Ali, 25, and Arif Hossain, 22, of Elagul village, lying at No Man’s Land along the Bangladesh-India border on Wednesday.
According to family sources, the two youths left home on Tuesday and remained missing since.
According to some locals, BSF fired at them at the Laltia border area when they were illegally entering India and left their bodies near main pillar number 1,331 of the border.
Police suspect that two of them were shot dead on Tuesday night or early hours of Wednesday by BSF or Khashia community during an attempt at illegal entry.
