Rupganj boat capsize: Teen’s body found, woman still missing

Members of the naval police and fire service on Thursday recovered the body of one of the two passengers who went missing after a boat sank in the Shitalakkha River in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila the previous night.
The body of Fatema Akhter Srishti, 17, was found floating near the Tarabo Ghat, confirmed Md Prince, inspector of Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Meanwhile, Jabeda Begum, 40, still remains missing, he added.
On Wednesday night, a boat with 20 passengers, on its way to Noapara from Chanpara Ghat, capsized half way after colliding with a cargo vessel.
Eighteen passengers had managed to swim ashore except Srishti and Jabeda.
Ichapur naval police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Montu Kumar Das said: “Naval police divers have been trying to find the missing persons since Thursday morning. After Srishti's body was found, it was handed over to her family.”
He added although the cargo vessel that hit the boat was seized, its crew members managed to flee the scene.
