The deceased are Shahin Pramanik and his nephew Rafik Khan of Shilarchar area under Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur.

Fire Service official Imran Sikder said a Faridpur-bound ambulance carrying seven people, including the driver and his assistant, fell into the ditch while coming from the Gabtoli bus terminal after its driver lost control of the steering wheel in Mitra Kalibari area at 3:00am, leaving two passengers dead on the spot.

The driver, his helper and three passengers managed to get out of the vehicle but the two, who had been sitting on the backseat, could not come out of the vehicle.

Locals rushed to the spot and informed the Fire Service, whose rescue team reached the spot immediately and recovered the bodies from the ambulance.

The two bodies were then sent to the local state-run hospital for autopsy.

One of the passengers who survived the accident said they had gotten in the ambulance as they could not find transportation to return home at night.
