Youth leader Habibullah Mizan has confessed to attempting to organize the attack on the JM Sen Hall puja mandap by agitating locals on October 15.
According to police, he made a confessional statement before the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin on Saturday afternoon.
Habibullah Mizan is a former convener of the Bandar police station area unit of the Student Rights Council led by CUKSU VP Nurul Haq Nur.
Chittagong Kotwali police station OC Nezam Uddin said seven people remanded in the case over the attack on JM Sen Hall were present in court when Mizan confessed to his involvement in the attack.
Mizan in his statement said a part of the procession, led by Mizanur Rahman, member secretary of the Youth Rights Council, marched towards JM Sen Hall. From there, they tried to attack the puja mandap and fled when police opened fire.
After the statement, the court ordered sending all seven accused to jail.
The case over the attempted attack on the JM Sen Hall Puja mandap was filed with Chittagong Kotwali police on October 16. At least 500 more unidentified people are accused in the case, which was filed by SI Akash Mahmud Farid under the Special Powers Act.
