20 public universities hold ‘cluster’ entrance tests

For the first time, students in Bangladesh took a cluster admission test to get into public universities.
In order to reduce the risk of students contracting coronavirus, 20 universities held combined admission tests for the academic year 2020-21 on Sunday.
Considering the pandemic situation, authorities have set up 28 exam centres across Bangladesh, according to Wahiduzzaman, member secretary of the Cluster Admission Test Committee.
Students had to take an hour-long test consisting of multiple choice questions (MCQs) worth 100 marks. Based on the results of the test, an academic merit list will be prepared.
As many as 131,905 students with science backgrounds took the test to get into the science departments of the universities.
Exams for the humanities departments and business departments are scheduled for October 4 and November 1.
It has been decided that the HSC syllabus will be followed with a total of 100 MCQs. For each incorrect result, 0.25 points will be deducted, according to the central admission test committee. A total of 361,406 students have applied to take part in the cluster admission tests for public universities.Among them, 194, 841 applied to science departments but only 131,905 students got the chance to take the test.
The number of students who applied to the humanities department is 107,933, while the number of students applying to the business department is 58,632.

In Comilla, the 'A' unit admission test to the science department was held on the campus. The admission test was conducted in 54 rooms of five faculty buildings of the university.
The Central Admission Test Committee announced that 2,505 students have taken the 'A' unit admission test. "We have managed to complete everything smoothly so far", Vice-Chancellor Imran Kabir Chowdhury told the media.
A total of 8,513 students took the test at Tangail’s Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University.
The 20 universities conducting the cluster admission tests are – Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Barisal University, Begum Rokeya University Rangpur, Comilla University, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Islamic University, Jagannath University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Jashore University of Science and Technology, Khulna University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Pabna University of Science and Technology, and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
