Police have recovered the hanging body of an eight-year-old girl in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila.
The body was recovered from a house in Dakshin Dhanua Natunbazar area of the upazila around 11pm on Tuesday.
Confirming the matter, Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Imam Hossain said the girl, Rashida, was probably strangled to death and later hanged. The body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Rashida’s father Jafar Ahmed said he left his daughter at home around 6pm on Tuesday and went to his tea shop. Around 6:45pm, his second wife Lipa returned home and found Rashida’s hanging body.
However, Rashida’s mother Shefali Begum claimed that Lipa has murdered her daughter.
“An unnatural death case has been filed and we are investigating the incident. No one has been arrested yet,” said OC Hossain.
