The platform is working with the institutes under the program to develop a sexual harassment prevention policy and committee.

The newly launched policy at Patuakhali Government College provisions for submitting complaints anonymously, formation of a probe committee and re-evaluation of cases after a certain period.

Anyone from the institution, irrespective of their gender can submit complaints of sexual harassment, according to a media statement.

“We want a country free of abuse and torture. We want a society where a person will be given their rights, they will not face discrimination based on their identity,” said We Can Chairperson Sultana Kamal.

“It is every education institute’s responsibility to ensure their students grow up to be model citizens,” she added.

She said that only drafting a policy is not enough, but everyone has to understand and abide by it.

Principal Nurul Ameen said that while things will not change overnight, a collective effort on everyone’s part at the college, will ensure that they play an exemplary role in standing up against sexual harassment.
