Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said Bangladesh’s economy will cross the $500 billion mark in FY2022-23 as the country continues on the path to becoming a happy and prosperous nation by 2041.
The minister made the remark during an event on Bangladesh's passage to becoming a developing country at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Sunday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the event virtually.
AHM Mustafa Kamal further said Bangladesh was faring better than many other underdeveloped nations, and was able to reach the developing country milestone under the rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangladesh was also being recognized for growth in almost every sector, according to him.
“It took our economy 19 years to attain $100 billion. Now the size of the economy has increased to $2,554 dollars per head. In the next financial year, our economy will be worth $500 billion,” the minister said.
“Our education rate has increased and poverty has decreased. Despite the state of the world during Covid-19, Bangladesh is progressing sufficiently. It is my belief that our foreign exchange reserves will reach $50 billion this year. By the year 2030, the nation will transform into a hunger free and high-income country.”
