Tk1.5 lakh as compensation. They will be also provided another Tk25,000 to meet the funeral expenses.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury made the announcement on Friday after visiting the site.
“A five-member probe panel, headed by a joint secretary, has been told to submit their findings within three working days,” he told the media.
At least 40 people were reported dead so far after a midnight fire swept through the launch “MV Obhijan 10” on the Sugandha river.
The death toll is likely to rise as more passengers have been injured after the Barguna-bound launch caught fire. At least 72 passengers injured in the incident were taken to hospital. Sixteen people have been sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment while more than 100 people sustained injuries.
