Missing tourist’s body recovered after 44 hours in Sylhet

The tourist went missing due to strong current in the water of Bholaganj Sadar Pathar tourist spot on Sunday

The body of a missing tourist was recovered at Bholaganj Sada Pathar tourist spot in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet two days after he had gone missing. 

The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 23, son of deceased Kalam of  Mirpur-11 of Dhaka. 

Locals spotted his floating body in Dhalai river, about 700 feet away from the site of the incident, around 10:30am and informed police. 

Later, police recovered the body. 

Hillul Ray, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj police station said that after completing the legal process, Salam's dead body will be sent to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College morgue for autopsy.

Abdus Salam went missing in the water in the tourist spot at around 2.30pm on Sunday. 

The diving team of the fire service searched for two days but could not trace him. 

Md Sajjad Hossain Shahin, who was accompanying the missing person, said that six people from Mirpur came for a visit at the tourist spot. There they went down in the water to bathe. 

At that time, Salam disappeared in the strong current of water while they were crossing the river.
