11 buses fined after complaints of overcharging in Noakhali

The transporters plying on Noakhali-Dhaka and Noakhali-Chittagong route were taking extra fare from the passengers by capitalizing on Eid-ul-Azha

A mobile court has fined Tk70,000 to 11 buses in Noakhali for the crime of collecting extra fare from commuters heading to work after the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.

District administration executive magistrates Debabrata Das and Ahsan Hafiz conducted the operation in the new bus stand area of the city on Sunday afternoon.

According to the court sources, the transporters plying on Noakhali-Dhaka and Noakhali-Chittagong route were taking extra fare from the passengers by capitalizing on Eid-ul-Azha. After that, raids were conducted at various places including New Bus Stand, PTI Junction, Maijdi Bazar in the district city.

As the complaint was proved during the operation, several buses including Lal Sabuj, Ekushey, Himachal and Feni-bound Sugondha Paribahan were fined Tk70,000 in 11 cases for not keeping the necessary documents up to date and not obeying the signals of law and order forces.

District administration executive magistrates Debabrata Das and Ahsan Hafiz confirmed the matter and said that complaints about charging high fare was made to the district commissioner. The expedition found that extra fares were charged per person on each transport. So, a total of Tk70,000 was fined in 11 cases.

Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mahbubur Rahman said that they have been warned not to charge more fare from common people.

BRTA Noakhali Assistant Revenue Officer Sujit Roy and Ansar members cooperated in the operation.
